Three straw bale walls forming an addition
to the main premises, with a lightweight frame.
Once the walls were built, the roof was then lowered onto
the bales.
The building's foundation consists of
used car tyres, and the Farm has used many reclaimable
materials to use in the build including a 1930’s boat
hull made of beautiful weathered teak planks,
locally coppiced wood and wool from the farm's own sheep.
This building is simple and functional
and accessible for as many people as possible to learn
about building with local and environmentally sensitive
materials.
The building also benefits from
a thick straw/clay wall against the original brick that
will retain the heat entering through roof windows running
the span of the building,
creating a warm and healthy space to learn in.
