This is an excellent opportunity for anyone who is interesting in designing and or building low impact buildings for residential use, or who wants to learn the latest strawbale building techniques. The course offers practical hands on experience of straw bale building and participants will gain an overview of the different options for building with straw and how to maximise the properties of straw bales for energy efficiency and acoustic insulation.
There will be opportunities to ask questions about your own ideas and projects.

info
We have worked in different parts of the globe, but predominantly
in the UK and Ireland helping create warm, safe, energy efficient,
affordable and often beautiful buildings - with self-builders, community
groups or mainstream contractors. And have had the privilege of
having been involved in the design and/or build of over 50 strawbale
buildings.
See our courses
page for details of current projects and training
opportunities.
We believe in this era of growing environmental awareness that the
starting point for all new design and building is to remember that
above all, we need a planet on which to build. That if the construction
industry held this simple truth as part of its mission statement,
then our global step towards a carbon neutral future would be immense.
The construction industry is fully responsible for nearly half of
all greenhouse gas emissions, and western buildings consume over
one third of all energy used globally, as well as 50% of all other
resources used each year such as timber and water . This is clearly
unsustainable and unjustifiable. Natural building just makes so
much sense.
Together with renewable energy, good design and the use of natural,
local and renewable materials, we can all be part of reshaping the
future of our planet - a more positive, more balanced and carbon
neutral future. The UK’s annual surplus of straw could build
over 250,000 superinsulated, 3 bedroomed homes a year.
